Hope Dustin Rhodes becomes champion soon. Dude got heart
Jericho didn’t deserve the title
But Dustin damn sure did.
That is already some of the best storytelling I've seen in wrestling. Two men who didn't get the recognition they deserved going to battle over something that is supposed to signify that recognition. But even if he wins it next week, what they could and SHOULD do is run on this premise:
Its not the title, greenhorns come in and get handed titles. Its not the 5 star matches, its not the records and streaks, its not the minutes given for the biggest ppv of the year. Its when people who you impacted go out of their way to thank you and call you out in front of those fans, and its when someone else is giving that speech on the Hall of Fame stage where you belong to be right alongside your dad. Jake Roberts, Harley Race, Jesse Ventura, Jim Duggan, and even Ricky himself who they both hold in esteem in front of them that week who never held that top gold but still got cemented in legend where they belonged. That is the recognition you're looking for, and that is the recognition you deserve, Dustin. And no number or brand of belt is going to do that, but it will come your way in time. Just keep doing what you do, your legacy is written, just don't do anything to tarnish it.
