AEW Dynamite Drops in Numbers Post-Revolution, Still Ahead of NXT This Week

Showbuzz Daily has the overnight ratings for this week’s Wednesday Night Wars battle between AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT. Despite the momentum from last week’s show with Shaquille O’Neal, the announcement of signing former WWE Superstar Christian Cage, and coming off the AEW Revolution PPV event, AEW still saw a significant loss in viewership from last week, with the show falling to 743,000 viewers. However, Dynamite still finished ahead of NXT, which drew 691,000 viewers.

Dynamite’s average audience of 743,000 fell about 191,000 viewers from last week’s show, which drew 934,000 viewers. That was the biggest audience of the year thus far. Last night’s AEW Dynamite is the second-lowest audience for 2021 to date.

Despite a big show, with two majorly hyped announcements by William Regal and three major title matches, NXT was not able to capitalize on the controversy and negative buzz AEW was facing following AEW Revolution. In fact, last night’s NXT slightly dropped in viewership from last week. Last week’s episode drew 692,000 viewers compared to this week’s 691,000.

The good news for AEW Dynamite is that ratings held fairly steady in the P18-49 key demo. The show only dropped slightly from last week’s 0.33 rating, and the show finished with a 0.32 rating for last night. NXT dropped in the ratings as well. The show drew a 0.18 rating, which is down from last week’s 0.20 in the same key demo.

AEW Dynamite was actually slightly higher in the Cable Top 150 this week, rising up to No. 4 from last week’s No. 6. NXT fell from No. 19 last week and ranked No. 25 for last night. The Season 24 premiere of South Park on Comedy Central managed to top the ratings for Wednesday night, drawing a 0.82 rating and 1.740 million viewers. The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC topped the viewership for the evening with 3.293 million viewers.
